Now, into its tenth year I continue to run our Family Office R.G. Capital investing in private credit, treasury, fx, bonds and hotels from Japan where I live with my wife Theresa and our three children Victor, Felicity and Astoria.
But it all started when I graduated from Brighton Grammar School in Melbourne Victoria, Australia in 1996. That same year I started at Deutsche Bank, Melbourne in the Corporate Banking and Project Finance Department. I continued my studies at the Australian Stock Exchange completing a Diploma in Applied Finance in 1999.
In 1998 I left Deutsche Bank and founded The Carbon Trader (later known as TCT Commodities) an energy derivatives commodity trading business that went onto amass the largest bank of carbon credits behind the World Bank’s Prototype Carbon Fund. The company specialised in trading and hedging on behalf of multi-national corporations with its biggest client being TEPCO Japan. TCT was valued by Macquarie Bank at A$250m in 2002 shortly before my exit.
Following on from TCT, I took my banking skill set and applied it to the hospitality industry creating M1NT - The World’s First Shareholders Club in 2002. The first M1NT Club opened in London in 2004 with Gordon Ramsay as partner and Sebastien Sainsbury as Chairman. M1NT expanded to France in 2005, Hong Kong 2006 and Shanghai in 2008. M1NT was the most awarded hospitality venue in Mainland China for 8 consecutive years including best restaurant in Asia by Condenast, best restaurant in China from Tatler and best design from Wallpaper. Upon my exit in 2014 the M1NT Group had 1,200 employees, US$70m in revenue and 2,000 shareholders (www.M1NT.com).
